Child Counseling

Oak Brook Child CounselingLife can be just as difficult for children as it is for adults. There is a misconception that because children don’t have the same adult responsibilities and emotions as adults to, that they have it easy and the confusing mixed emotions they express are minimized as them just being kids. In fact, children more often than not have to deal with the same stresses as adults do including separation, divorce, insecurity, illness, bullying, addiction, death, and rejection. This can cause a rollercoaster of emotions and feelings that many children may not know how to handle in a healthy way.

Because children may not know how to describe in words what they are feeling, it can cause a barrier between parents and children. That is where we at Leyden can help. Our kind and loving counselors are trained to work with children to get to the core of the issue or issues they are dealing with.

Child Counseling Services

For young children who have trouble putting their thoughts and feelings into words, play therapy is utilized. For older children, we incorporate talk therapy. At Leyden, we work with children both individually and in family counseling. Your participation will be an important part of helping your child. The therapist will meet with you separately to understand better what is happening at home, to measure your child’s progress, make suggestions, and provide strategies to help you be more effective with your child’s problems.

At Leyden, we work closely with all the important caregivers in all areas of your child’s life. This includes working closely with teachers, school counselors, social workers, step parents, and family physicians if appropriate.
